Allan Rosenow

A Brief Introduction

My name is Allan Rosenow, and I am a visual communicator currently studying Digital Design at the University of Cincinnati. I’ve been doing design in one form or another for about 6 years, but I’ve been practicing communication for my whole life.

2 Things

Based on that experience, I have come to realize two things about the art of communication. First, I vastly prefer communicating visually. Not only does this come more naturally for me than verbal communication, but I also find it to be a more elegant, and often more accurate, solution. The American author, Diane Ackerman, said, “The visual image is a kind of tripwire for the emotions.” It can take pages of words to convey the same impact as a single visual image. Does that make visual communication the lazy way? Maybe. But I think the brain likes to be lazy.

The second thing I’ve learned is that communication is constant. There is practically no point in the day when you are not absorbing information of some sort, and the effects of this bombardment are more noticeable in this age than ever before. As communication becomes more and more interactive, the question of how information is delivered is becoming just as important as the message itself.

In a Nutshell

Ideas like this excite me. I believe there are huge changes ahead in the way we think about communication. I chose the field of Digital Design because it best addresses the issue of visual communication in an increasingly interactive world.
